B.C. health officials have reported 1,068 new COVID-19 cases today as well as three new deaths.
The new cases include 106 in Interior Health. There were also 492 in Fraser Health, 352 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 73 in Island Health, 43 in Northern Health and two cases among non-Canadian residents.
There are now 8,671 active cases across the province, with now 328 people in hospital and 96 people in intensive care units.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says there were 207 new COVID-19 variant cases today, saying 206 were in Vancouver Coastal Health and one was in Fraser Health. There have now been 3,766 total variant cases, and 266 are active.
“Unnecessary travel and social gatherings are fuelling the fire for the variants of concern transmission as well. But we all have the ability to slow that down. And this is a time when we can do that,” Henry says.
“We will be in a very different position by this summer. And that is a prediction that I will make right now. But right now, we don’t yet have enough people protected. Those around us, our young people around us, our elders, our seniors, with vaccines, to keep our communities safe.”
Meanwhile, the province has administered 912,056 vaccine doses as of Monday night, which is about 19,000 more than Sunday.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says the province will hit one million doses administered by the end of this week.
