UPDATE: 1:45 p.m.
The City of Kamloops says traffic is flowing freely again on the Overlanders Bridge, after a truck spilled part of its load earlier today.
A northbound truck clipped the Tranquille Road overpass just after 11 a.m. and dropped large panels across Fortune Drive, which was closed for northbound traffic after that until about 1:30 p.m.
Northbound vehicles were using the Tranquille Road overpass to get the North Shore, while southbound traffic had to take a lengthy detour down Leigh Road and Tranquille Road, before merging onto the bridge.
The overpass was also closed briefly immediately after the crash, to be inspected for any damage.
Further details of the crash that caused this incident are not yet clear.
UPDATE: The overpass has been deemed safe to reopen. There is currently one lane open southbound on Overlanders Bridge, with traffic being routed over the overpass. Motorists are advised to PLEASE AVOID THE AREA. Cleanup is ongoing and expected to take most of the day. #kamloops pic.twitter.com/MCUsHSc3Bq
