At least one Kamloops-area golf course says it will bring in restrictions on who can play a round for the next five weeks.
In a statement, management at Tobiano Golf Course, west of Kamloops, say all new reservations until May 24 will be restricted to residents of Interior Health.
“We are hopeful that our customers currently booked from outside of the Interior Health Authority prior to May 24 will call the Golf Shop to rebook a tee time for May 25 or later,” the statement said.
“We kindly request the understanding of those calling the Golf Shop for the next five weeks to provide their residence location upon booking. For those booking online, you may be contacted by phone or email to confirm your residence within the Interior Health Region.”
It wasn’t immediately clear if any reservations would be cancelled if people from outside Interior Health did not voluntarily re-book their tee-times later in the year.
This all comes after yesterday’s announcement from the province aimed at limiting travel between health authorities to try and slow the spread of COVID-19.
“Hopefully, with the increased circuit breaker initiatives and increased vaccine protection, we will all be able to enjoy summer in British Columbia,” the statement added.
This morning, Public Safety Minister, Mike Farnworth, clarified that the government is looking at using “periodic roadblocks” at places like ferry terminals or along major highways leading out of Metro Vancouver to limit non-essential travel.
Farnworth noted there will be no random, individual stops, with more details about the province’s measures coming on Friday.
