Concerns are being raised about safety at a busy interchange in North Kamloops.
Councillor Bill Sarai says the issue is at the interchange on 8th Street, connecting to Westsyde Road, Ord Road and to Batchelor Heights.
He says congestion is okay, but says safety is a growing concern.
“You’ve got three lanes going towards Batchelor, one’s coming off the Halston and they’re trying to merge. And if they decide they have to go to Ord Road or they have to go to Batchelor, they’re changing three lanes of traffic while you have two lanes of traffic coming up 8th Street. And it’s just a crapshoot.
“And if they’re not from here, it’s a really dangerous situation. So a lot of residents, myself included, have seen it getting worse and worse. If you live here, you know what lane to be in. If you don’t live here, you could cause a serious accident.”
Sarai says the intersection safety seems to be “getting worse by the week,” adding that some of the pressures right now may be caused by a detour through Brocklehurst because of major construction on Tranquille Road.
The City of Kamloops and ICBC are in the midst of studying safety at that intersection, and will have a report done sometime this year.
