The Thompson-Nicola Regional District says BDO Canada will be doing the independent forensic audit and special financial review into the regional district’s financial records and expenses.
It says there were six proposals that were reviewed with the Vancouver based company emerging as the successful bidder.
The TNRD hopes its contract for the review will be finalized within the next week, with the goal of having the work start in early May.
“BDO has a highly qualified forensic accounting and investigations team with significant experience combined with strong knowledge of local government systems and practices,” TNRD CAO Scott Hildebrand said, in a statement.
“The TNRD is looking forward to working with BDO who will receive full cooperation from the TNRD to carry out their work.”
All findings of the forensic audit and the financial review as well as any recommendations will be made public.
The audit comes after a report from Kamloops This Week showed more than $517,000 of taxpayers money was expensed by former CAO, Sukh Gill between 2015 and 2020.
Back on March 26, the RCMP said it was investigating potential financial irregularities at the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, though details on the extent of the RCMP investigation were not released.
