People in Tobiano could soon have a much shorter trip to get gas and groceries.
A developer wants to build a gas station, liquor store, grocery store, office space and “resort accommodation” in the community. The commercial complex would be at Holloway Drive and Colebrook Road, just off of the Trans-Canada Highway.
Area director Ronaye Elliott says a commercial retail centre has always been envisioned for Tobiano.
“It was part of the original plan to have a retail, small area for the community once it started to grow. And it’s growing exponentially. So it’ll be good because there’s just nothing there,” Elliott says.
“We either go to Kamloops or Savona to get gas, one or the other. Tobiano is big enough now that if they have a gas station or a convenience store it’ll be well supported too.”
Kamland Holdings is asking the Thompson-Nicola Regional District for a zoning amendment to allow a gas station to be built on the property. Other uses being proposed are already allowed under current zoning.
The TNRD board will discuss the proposal on Thursday and vote on whether to send the plans to a public hearing at a later date.
