Crews are now mopping up a grassfire on the Tk’emlups Indian Band near the Halston Connector.
It broke out at about 10:30 a.m. near Salish Road and the Halston.
Kamloops Fire Rescue Capt. Shawn Davidson says it grew to one-to-two hectares in size.
“When we arrived on scene, we saw a fire in the greenspace in the area. And we began actioning it. Since then, an engine and a bush truck has been released. There’s still two bush trucks and two water tenders on scene.”
Davidson says there was never a risk to any structural values.
“No, definitely not a concern at all. There were some Hydro lines in the area. That was about the only risk to our crews. And it was just quite visible because it was right beside the Halston Connector. Basically it was the old area where the drive-in used to be, and there was no structures on the property. So there was no risk to any buildings at all.”
He says the cause of the fire is still to be determined.
