The province is reporting 184 new cases of COVID-19 today the lowest one-day case count so far in 2021.
Of those, only 19 cases were in Interior Health. There were also 113 cases in Fraser Health, 48 in Vancouver Coastal Health, two in Northern Health, one in Island Health and one in a person who lives outside of Canada.
Active cases have dropped slightly since Monday, to 2,800. There are now 254 people in hospital and 80 people in intensive care, which are both up slightly from Monday.
There were no new COVID-19 deaths reported today in B.C.
Meanwhile, another 53,173 vaccine doses were administered in the past day, taking the total to more than 3.3 million, which have been given to 3.1 million people.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry says 70.4 per cent of people aged 18 and older have received a first vaccine dose. Only 4.3 per cent, however, have gotten a second dose, as that number is expected to ramp up in the coming weeks.
Henry acknowledges the National Advisory Committee on Immunizations which noted that, as of today, someone who got the AstraZeneca vaccine can be given either Pfizer or Moderna for their second vaccine dose. She says B.C. will provide more details on guidance tomorrow.
“The more people who are fully vaccinated, the less risk there is that the virus can spread in our communities, and the more quickly we’ll be able to confidently put the COVID-19 pandemic behind us. Let’s keep moving forward,” Henry said.
A further 139,899 people who tested positive for COVID-19 are considered to have recovered, almost 97 per cent of the total 144,473 cases in British Columbia.
