B.C. health officials are reporting 194 new COVID-19 cases in the province today, along with four more deaths.
It is the second lowest daily case count so far this year, ten more than the 184 reported yesterday.
Of today’s total, there were 33 new cases in Interior Health, with 122 in Fraser Health, 33 in Vancouver Coastal Health, four in Northern Health, and two on Vancouver Island.
Active cases are at 2,662 with 246 people currently in hospital with COVID-19, 70 of whom are in intensive care. All of those numbers were down from yesterday’s update.
On the vaccine front, there were another 61,952 doses administered since yesterday, taking the total across the province to 3,365,286 doses. Of that, 208,145 are second doses. It means 71.1 per cent of all adults in B.C. and 68 per cent of those 12 and older have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
“We are slowly and cautiously moving forward through Step 1, and in the weeks ahead, activities that have been on hold will resume once again,” a statement from Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry said.
“Many are excited about this transition, but there can also be fear and anxiety about what this may mean for you and your loved ones. We have all worked hard to stay safe and we want to keep our positive momentum going.”
Those details are expected to be announced on or around June 15.
“We can progress at a pace that works for us – whether that is in step with the restart plan or perhaps being slower and more gradual in our individual approaches,” the statement added.
“Even as we move forward, businesses will still be required to have a workplace safety plan, based on the individual risks in their business. And we must also be respectful that some people and communities will take more time to welcome visitors, based on their own vulnerabilities.”
There are now 140,238 people who tested positive for COVID-19 who are considered to have recovered, about 97 per cent of the total 144,667 cases in British Columbia.
