Kamloops RCMP say they arrested several people who were wanted on outstanding warrants this past Tuesday.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says the arrest warrants were from several areas including Abbottsford, 100-Mile, and Barriere.
In a statement, she says a trespassing call on the 400-block of McGill Road was one of the calls that led to the arrest of a wanted person. Around 9 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was called to a report of people walking through backyards to campout behind a store on the 900-block of Columbia Street West.
“While investigating the complaint, the officer discovered one of the men was wanted on a warrant for theft and obstruction,” Evelyn said. “When the man was told he was under arrest, he allegedly fled, leading to a short foot pursuit and struggle. The man was arrested for resisting and charges may be recommended following the investigation’s conclusion.
A 24-year-old Kamloops man was taken into custody and later released with a court date.
Later in the day, around 2:40 p.m., a call to police regarding a shoplifter apprehended on the 700-block of Victoria Street downtown led to the execution of several warrants on a 44-year-old Kamloops woman.
“The woman was wanted for theft out of Abbottsford; theft out of Barriere; theft and driving while prohibited out of Kamloops,” Evelyn said, noting the woman is in court on June 17.
Then, around 3:30 p.m., police were back in the 700-block of Victoria Street after a request from 100 Mile RCMP to help execute an unendorsed warrant related to offences including assault with a weapon, unlawful confinement, extortion, and breach of release conditions.
“When local frontline officers attempted to apprehend the man, he allegedly resisted and became combative,” Evelyn noted. “One officer was injured during the altercation, and received non-life threatening injuries, which required medical attention.”
In this case as well, a 24-year-old Kamloops man was taken into custody pending a court date.
Then finally, around 9:17 p.m., Evelyn says proactive patrols in the Valleyview area led to an officer spotting a man wanted on an unendorsed warrant related to breaching a release order.
A 39-year-old Kamloops man was arrested and received a release order for June 7.
