More of an indication that a vaccine passport will likely be needed for international travel for B.C. residents.
Health Minister Adrian Dix hinted at that on Monday, when asked during a media conference what kind of incentives the province could offer for people refusing to get vaccinated.
“We’ve got to make it as easy as possible for people to get vaccinated. And there will be other advantages. We’ll see that in terms of travel and other things in the future, which will be further incentives for people to get vaccinated,” he says.
“I don’t think people need to get gifts to get vaccinated; getting vaccinated is a gift.”
For more than a month, the federal government has hinted at that travellers will eventually need to prove they’ve been vaccinated before leaving the country. Government officials or health officials have not yet outright announced that requirement.
Meanwhile, when it comes to vaccine hesitancy, Dix also says B.C. is still seeing first doses go up. As of Monday, 74 per cent of adults had gotten at least one dose.
“We’ve got to continue to make it easy for people to get vaccinated, and continue to push towards the ultimate goal which is as close to 100 per cent as we can get. But we haven’t stopped seeing an increase in first doses.”
