One person was killed in a house fire at Monte Creek on Tuesday night, according to the RCMP.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says police are holding the scene at 1257 Hook Road for the BC Coroners Service.
“One person is suspected to be deceased sadly. At this time, no criminality is suspected,” Evelyn told NL News.
It’s not clear yet who the victim might be, but witnesses say a couple lived in that home. Witnesses also reports that the person killed had gone back into the home for a pet, though NL News has not been able to confirm this.
The fire broke out shortly after 8 p.m. at the home which is located on the same property as Hermitage Forest Products. A cause of the fire has not been reported.
Smoke and flames were highly visible from the Trans-Canada Highway as the sun was setting on Tuesday. Many neighbours also watched the fire from a distance.
The area where the fire broke out does not have fire protection, but based on the severity, the Pritchard Volunteer Fire Department responded from about 15 minutes away.
More to come.
