Construction on an affordable housing project on Tk’emlúps te Secwepemc land will begin this fall.
Chief Rosanne Casimir says the project will include a 30-unit apartment building as well as 28 town houses.
“The townhouses will be three and four bedroom units and the apartments will be one and two bedrooms,” she said. “They will be serving the needs of our families, elders, and low-income individuals as well as those with disabilities who are members of TteS as per our Housing Needs and Demand Study of 2020.”
Casimir says the band is excited by these two projects, noting it has been more than 20 years since new housing has been built in the community.
“This project will be funded through BC Housing, and we are appreciative of their support,” she added. “This new housing is also in addition to the Rapid Housing Elders project at Tyee Park.”
“We will be keeping our members informed and look forward to construction this late fall of 2021.”
