Kamloops RCMP say a 55-year-old local man was arrested after a house on the North Shore was broken into early on Saturday morning while the family who lives there were asleep inside.
Spokesperson Sgt. Darren Michels says the police were called to a house on Sydney Avenue around 6:30 a.m. on June 12 after a break and enter and theft of a vehicle.
“The homeowner said that while his family was sleeping, a suspect was able to gain entry to their home through an unlocked basement door, “Michels said. “Once inside, the suspect quietly stole several valuable items, vehicle keys, and ate food from the refrigerator before departing the residence in the family vehicle.”
Later that day around 12:54 p.m., he says RCMP were told about a suspicious vehicle on Beach Avenue with two men inside who appeared to be unconscious.
“Police quickly attended to find the stolen vehicle with two occupants in the front seats who appeared to have been using drugs and had fallen asleep, “Michels said. “BC Emergency Health Services attended and treated the males.”
The 55-year-old man who is known to police was arrested for possession of stolen property obtained by a crime and released with a future court date.
