
B.C. is reporting 109 new cases of COVID-19 today, and one new death from the virus.
Of the new cases, 26 are in Interior Health, with another 65 in Fraser Health, 13 in Vancouver Coastal Health and five are in Northern Health. There were no new cases on Vancouver Island.
For almost two weeks now, there have been more cases in the Interior when compared to Vancouver Coastal Health, despite the VCH having twice as many people. double. Local health area data shows the majority of transmission in the Interior is happening in the Central Okanagan, with a recent spike in the Vernon area as well.
Today, there are 1,389 active cases of COVID-19, which is 62 fewer than yesterday. There are now 128 people in hospital with COVID-19, 48 of those patients are in intensive care. ICU patients have gone from 41 to 48 in the past two days, while active cases and hospitalizations have dropped slightly.
Meanwhile, there were another 64,280 vaccine doses were given out today – 8,917 of which were first doses while 55,363 were second doses.
“Being fully vaccinated – with both doses – gives you and those around you maximum protection, which is why we encourage everyone to book your second dose as soon as you are eligible,” health officials said, in a statement.
“Interchangeability, having a different mRNA vaccine for your second dose, does not impact effectiveness or safety. All of our vaccines are safe and highly effective and that is the case whether you have the same or different vaccine for your second dose.”
At this point, 76.7 per cent of adults in B.C. have gotten a first dose of the vaccine while 18.7 per cent of adults are fully vaccinated.
