If you need a job, the closest hotel to where you live is probably hiring.
As B.C. has eased some COVID-19 restrictions, with more to come for July, many hotels are staffing up for the season.
Speaking on NL Newsday, the general manager of the Delta Hotel in downtown Kamloops, Bryan Pilbeam, says there will be a lot of training to be done as well in the coming weeks.
“When those are people who are returning to work, a simple re-train and getting them reacclimated to the processes and procedures. If they haven’t been there, then lots will be new. But we wouldn’t change it for the world,” he said.
“This is a great challenge for us to have, it’s going to be a significant one. But it wouldn’t happen if we didn’t have business, and we’re just excited to see that come back.”
Pilbeam says hotel room bookings are ramping up with weddings also preparing to go ahead during the summer.
Many restaurants are also in the same boat with staff shortages, according to BC Restaurant Association president, Ian Tostenson, now that indoor dining restrictions have been eased.
Tostenson estimates there are about 40,000 jobs are available in the industry across the province.
