B.C. health officials are reporting 229 new COVID-19 cases this past weekend, including 60 in Interior Health.
Another 99 cases were in Fraser Health, 51 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 13 in Northern Health, and five in Island Health.
There were an average of 76 new cases each day this past weekend – 94 new cases from Friday to Saturday, 90 from Saturday to Sunday, and 45 cases from Sunday to Monday – the lowest one day case count so far this year.
Active cases are at 1,204 with 108 people in hospital, 48 of whom are in intensive care. There were also three more deaths reported taking the death toll to 1,743 people.
On the vaccine front, there have been 4,436,432 doses administered, including 935,401 second doses. As it stands, 77.3 per cent of all adults and 75.8 per cent of people over the age of 12 have gotten one dose of a COVID vaccine.
“On what is also the first day of summer, we encourage everyone to start your summer off right by ensuring you have your first dose, if you have not already done so,” a statement from B.C. health officials said. “Dose 1 drop-in clinics are open at a number of locations around the province.”
“In particular, as the school year comes to a close, we encourage all eligible youth, those 12 and older, to get your first dose before the summer holidays begin. This will allow you and your family to enjoy your summer even more, knowing you have protection from COVID-19.”
The province is currently in Step 2 of its Restart plan, with Step 3 expected to take effect on July 1.
“Let’s remember that the virus is still circulating in communities, here in B.C. and in neighbouring provinces and territories,” the statement added. “If you are planning a trip, ensure you are vaccinated before you go – it is your ticket to safe travel this summer.”
“Let’s take today to recognize the hardships and sacrifices of so many, by doing our part and getting vaccinated.”
There are now 144,153 people who are considered to have recovered from COVID-19, almost 98 per cent of the total 147,131 cases in British Columbia.
