B.C. health officials are reporting 87 new COVID-19 cases in the province today with nearly half of those cases – 41 – in Interior Health.
Interior Health had most of the new COVID-19 cases out of any health region in B.C., with Fraser Health reporting 30 cases, 13 in Vancouver Coastal Health, and three on Vancouver Island. There were no new cases in Northern Health.
Active cases are at 1,119 with 109 people in hospital, 41 of whom are in ICU. There was also one COVID-19 related death reported, taking the provincial total to 1,744 people.
On the vaccine front, nearly one quarter of adults (24.3 per cent) in B.C. are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. There have been 1,051,910 second doses administered, out of a total 4,570,153 doses. As it stands, 77.2 per cent of adults and 75.8 per cent of people over the age of 12 have gotten one dose of a COVID vaccine.
“Our vaccines are safe and highly effective. Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca are all helping to significantly reduce the number of people getting seriously ill with COVID-19,” a statement from Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, and Health Minister Adrian Dix said.
“While cases continue to come down, we still have new cases from community transmission every day. That is why, whether you live in the North, on the Coast or in the Interior, we strongly encourage everyone to get fully vaccinated as soon as you are eligible.”
There are now 144,383 people who are considered to have recovered from COVID-19, 98 per cent of the total 147,271 cases in British Columbia.
