RCMP now say one person was killed in a targeted shooting in Scotch Creek last week, as a suspect remains outstanding.
The shooting happened on Friday, at about 5:45 a.m., in the 4100-block of Squilax-Anglemont Road. Chase RCMP responded and found a man with gunshot wounds, and later died from his injuries.
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Scotch Creek resident John Vance.
Mounties tell NL News the shooting was “isolated” and that the victim and suspect knew each other.
Police had initially arrested a man in connection to the killing, but that person was been released after no charges were laid within 24 hours.
“The RCMP is publicly naming John in an effort to advance its ongoing investigation into his homicide death,” Staff Sgt. Scott Aschenbrunner says, with the RCMP Major Crime Unit.
“Major crime investigators are asking anyone who may have seen or interacted with John during the early morning hours of Friday to come forward and speak with police.”
Anyone with information is being asked to call RCMP at 1-877-987-8477.
