
B.C. health officials say there were another 87 new COVID-19 cases over the past three days.
There were 30 new cases reported from July 2 to 3, 37 new cases from July 3 to 4, and 20 new cases from July 4 to 5.
However, health officials say 45 of the 87 cases were in Interior Health – the most in any health authority in the province, with 160 total active cases in the area. Its not immediately clear where the cases in Interior Health were.
As of the latest data, there were spikes in the Windermere and Fernie areas, though Interior Health also reported a COVID outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops last Wednesday.
Fraser Health had another 33 cases (193 active), Vancouver Coastal Health reported five (245 active), and one new cases in Northern Health and Island Health, which have 34 and 11 active cases respectively.
There were also two new cases in people who live outside of Canada, with nine of these cases active.
Provincewide, there are currently 652 actives cases of COVID-19 in B.C., with 85 people currently in hospital, 22 in intensive care.
On the vaccine front, there are now 78 per cent (3,613,370) of people over the age of 12 who have gotten one dose of a COVID vaccine. A total of 36 per cent (1,668,268) of British Columbians are fully vaccinated.
Health officials also reported three more deaths, one each in Vancouver Coastal, Interior, and Northern Health.
B.C. is now in the third step of its reopening plan, which came into effect on July 1. Among the bigger changes, masks are still recommended but no longer mandatory and people can now have unrestricted personal gatherings, including sleepovers.
As of today, fully vaccinated Canadians and permanent residents coming home from abroad do not need to quarantine for two weeks.
