Smoke is visible this afternoon from a small wildfire burning over the bluffs, north of the South Thompson River.
Fire crews were alerted of the smoke sometime before 3 p.m., which is coming from an area northeast of Kamloops. The BC Wildfire Service has aircraft now tending to the blaze.
A witness reports very windy conditions from near the Lafarge Bridge, well below where this fire is burning.
It’s not clear if this is a new fire or a flare-up from a fire that started over the Canada Day long weekend.
There is a blaze south of Scheidam Lake which was caused by lightning on July 2. It had grown to 6.2 hectares in size and as of this afternoon was listed as “held.”
More to come.
