Good news for people who live in 96 properties in the vicinity of the Napier Lake wildfire, south of Kamloops.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District has rescinded the evacuation alert today, five days after the situation was downgraded from an order to an alert.
“The threat of wildfire in the area no longer poses an imminent risk to the safety of residents,” the TNRD said, in a statement.
The properties in question are as follows
• 8420 to 8588 Fraser Rd;
• 80 to 200 Golden Quill Trail;
• 7085 to 7745 Hwy 5A;
• 11425 Kamloops-Merritt Hwy 5A;
• 8745 to 8805 Long Lake Rd;
• 8165 to 8895 Old Kamloops Rd;
• 7630 to 7650 Raven Ridge Rd;
• 6465 to 8145 Trapp Lake Rd;
• 16 to 72 Windy Way; and
• other properties as identified on the attached map.
The Napier Lake fire is being held at 56 hectares in size, with crews currently in the mop up stage.
“Sufficient suppression action has been taken that the fire is not likely to spread beyond existing or predetermined boundaries under the prevailing and forecasted conditions,” the BC Wildfire Service said, noting there has been no growth seen at the fire since July 7.
“The north and south flank of the fire were quiet today.”
The TNRD says should conditions change an evacuation alert or order could be reinstated, if needed.
The cause of this wildfire has not yet been determined.
Got eyes on the Napier Lake fire south of #Kamloops for the first time today. This was from the #BCHwy5A viewpoint. Fire started Wednesday afternoon when winds were gusting. It is being held at 56 hectares. It crept up very close to a couple of homes. @RadioNLNews #bcwildfires pic.twitter.com/bNuaZik3Zs
