Another 110 properties west of Kamloops are being evacuated this morning because of the Sparks Lake wildfire.
Those homes are on Dale Road, Frederick Road, Harbridge Drive, Meadow Road and Tranquille-Criss Creek Road. More details from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District can be found here.
This latest evacuation comes after nine properties were put on evacuation order on Monday night closer to Savona, affecting properties on Copper Creek Road, Sabiston Creek Road, Savona Dump Road and Savona Station Road. Detail on that evacuation can be found here.
With this, at least 289 properties have now been evacuated because of the Sparks Lake fire, which has burned at least 40,267 hectares of land. Apart from evacuations within the TNRD, the Skeetchestn Indian Band has evacuated multiple reserves as well. Hundreds of properties are on evacuation alert as well.
Minimal new growth was reported on Monday at the fire, but the BC Wildfire Service says control lines were “challenged” by fire activity on the west flank near Split Rock and the east flank at Frog Lake.
The fire broke out on June 28, and is believed to have been human-caused.
