UPDATED: 5:25 p.m.
The BC Wildfire Service says a new blaze northeast of Kamloops is estimated to be four hectares in size.
The service says it’s burning on the ridge line near Mount Peter, pointing out the fact that smoke from the fire is visible in much of the surrounding area.
“This (fire) is a moderately vigorous surface fire with an organized flame front,” an update from the wildfire service says, adding more information will be coming.
The fire danger rating remains high to extreme in the Kamloops Fire Centre, as a heat warning is in place with no rain in the forecast over the next week and many of the province now experiencing drought.
#BCWildfire Service is responding to K21887 along the Mount Peter Ridge Line. It is very visible from #Kamloops and surrounding areas. This incident is a moderately vigorous surface fire with an organized flame front, currently estimated at 4 ha. More updates will be provided.
