
There have been 78 new COVID-19 in cases reported in B.C. today, as new daily cases have continued to trend upwards in the past week.
Of the new cases, 31 were in Interior Health, while 23 were in Vancouver Coastal Health, 21 in Fraser Health, two in Island Health and one in Northern Health.
Hospitalizations dropped by two, compared to Tuesday, with now 48 people in hospital with the virus, while the number of intensive care patients rose by four, to 16.
There are also 729 active cases, as that number has risen by 12 per cent in the past two days. There are 222 active cases in the Interior.
Today was another big day for vaccinations, with 63,493 people getting the jab in the past day. There have now been 6,297,149 vaccine doses administered in B.C., and 80.1 per cent of eligible residents (people 12 and older) have gotten at least a first dose, while 55.6 per cent of those people are fully vaccinated.
Vaccine doses are also approaching one million in Interior Health, with the health authority saying this afternoon it has given out 969,810 doses.
“For anyone who has not had the chance to get immunized, it’s not too late,” IH CEO Susan Brown says. “Whether you schedule an appointment or simply drop-in to any of our immunization clinics, we are continuing to make the vaccine available across the Interior.”
