
Another 175 properties have been put on evacuation alert from the growing Lytton Creek wildfire, including Spences Bridge.
The Thompson-Nicola Regional District issued the new alert late Tuesday night. The new alert areas covers the Thompson River watershed between the Nicomen River north to Drinkwater Road and the turnoff to Highway 8. A full list of properties affected can be found here.
The Lytton Creek fire started on June 30, and within a very short period after starting burning down most of the Village of Lytton.
The fire moved north in the Fraser Canyon and east into the Thompson Valley. Fire activity has calmed down to the north, with 53 evacuation orders being downgraded to alerts on Monday night. But the fire has picked up substantially in recent days and moved east.
The blaze was last mapped at 15,664 hectares on Tuesday afternoon.
All of the Village of Lytton remains on evacuation order from the fire, as well as areas east of the village including Skihist Provincial Park and the Gladwin Mobile Home Park.
The Trans-Canada Highway has been closed since June 30 between Hope and Spences Bridge, and Highway 12 is closed at the Highway 1 junction in Lytton, with only local traffic being allowed on Highway 12 south of Lillooet.
