The District of Logan Lake has closed all of its trails because of the extreme fire risk.
The closure for all users will be in place until further notice, according to fire chief Doug Wilson.
“It’s extremely dry. We haven’t seen it this dry for quite some time. The last few years we’ve gotten a few days of rain in between, which certainly helps. But with the length of the time and the hotness that we’ve had already this year, it’s begun earlier. So we have to air on the side of caution here and protect our people,” he says.
“There’s the trail to Mimi Falls, we have a pile of trails that go behind the District here, into the ski trail area. We’ve got some up the back side of our lake which leads up to a bike park. They’ve all been closed for the timebeing, so we don’t have any smoking material dropped or any combustions going on.”
The closure also bans forestry access for recreation.
Wilson says he ordered similar trail closures as a precaution in 2017 and in 2018, which both ended up being record wildfire seasons in B.C.
