
B.C. health officials are reporting 150 new COVID-19 cases today, the highest one day total in just over a month.
Of that, 95 new cases were in Interior Health – which remains the hotspot for new cases – with another 32 in Fraser Health, 17 in Vancouver Coastal Health, and three each in Island Health and Northern Health.
It is the second time the province has had over 100 cases in a single day in the past week, after 112 cases were reported last Friday, July 23.
Active cases in B.C. are now at 783 people (up from 695 yesterday) the number of people in hospital at 44 (up by one) with 22 people in intensive care (up by three).
There are 412 active cases in Interior Health (up from 342 yesterday) with another 196 active cases in Fraser Health, 122 in Vancouver Coastal Health, 35 in Northern Health, 14 is Island Health, and four in people who normally live outside of Canada.
Earlier today, the province announced a new campaign called ‘Vax for BC’ to try and make it easier for people to get vaccinated.
Data shows 96 per cent of the new COVID cases in the province are among people who are either partially vaccinated or not vaccinated at all. Broken down further – that’s 68 per cent of cases in people not vaccinated at all, while 28 per cent are in partially vaccinated people.
As it stands, there are 81.7 per cent of people over the age of 12 who have gotten one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 62.3 per cent of people are now fully vaccinated. A further 906,000 people are not vaccinated in B.C., the majority by percentage in Northern Health followed by Interior Health.
