A man made away with only minor injuries after his plane crashed into Kamloops Lake this morning.
Kamloops RCMP say a CN Rail worker noticed the downed plane near Frederick Road, on the north end of the lake, and called 9-1-1 at 9:15 a.m.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says the pilot was the only person on board, and says he swam to shore for safety. He was taken to hospital with only minor injuries.
Evelyn says the plane was upside down when it was spotted, and says it was moved to a safer spot in the lake after RCMP and Kamloops Search and Rescue responded.
Further details on the circumstances of the crash are unclear, including whether the pilot had just taken off or was preparing to land at Kamloops Airport, which is only several kilometres west of where the plane was found. Wildfire smoke was also heavy at the time of the accident.
