Police in Kamloops are looking to find out who – and why – after a horse in Monte Creek had hair cut off of its tail.
Mounties have put out a call to the public to “be on the lookout” for anyone near their horses who seems suspicious.
This comes after police responded to a horsetail hair-cutting incident on July 5, in the 1500-block of Monte Creek Road. Const. Crystal Evelyn says someone went onto the property and cut hair off of the colt’s tail.
Evelyn says the horse was not hurt, but that with no hair it’s not able to swat away from flies and insects that bite.
She also couldn’t confirm a motive for the incident, but did say “horse hair is known to be used in crafts.”
Cpl. Cory Lepine, with the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP Detachment’s Livestock Section, says this isn’t the first time something like this has been reported.
“It’s really disheartening to think someone would sneak up on a horse and cut its tail off,” Lepine said.
Anyone with information on the hair-cutting incident is asked to call Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP at 250-314-1800.
