UPDATE: 3:45 p.m.
A new wildfire has been reported this afternoon in the Walhachin area, west of Kamloops and Savona.
BC Wildfire Service information officer Kyla Fraser said crews are responding to the Oxbow Lake fire, which is 0.6 hectares in size.
“It’s located about five-and-a-half kilometres west of Savona and we currently have two helicopters that are bucketing the fire,” she said.
“It is located quite close to the Tremont Creek wildfire so some operations that are working on that fire were able to lend a hand on this new one.”
Fraser said this new fire is suspected to be human caused. She also told NL News the fire is in the crass and its not threatening any structures at this time.
Walhachin was evacuated for nine days, between July 17-26, because of the Tremont Creek wildfire, burning to the south. That order was lifted after crews contained the fire at its north flank where it was threatening structures.
There have been no reports of structures lost from that fire.
