The Tremont Creek fire is about 500 metres from Tunkwa Lake, and crews hope it doesn’t get any closer.
BC Wildfire Service information officer Luke Robinson says crews were putting guards in thisafternoon to halt the fire’s growth.
“We’ve got machine guards in place, and finishing being built today, with a plan to keep the fire on the western side of Tunkwa Lake.”
He also says fire lines are holding to the south.
“We have done some planned ignitions in the south and southwest to protect and strengthen our containment lines around the Glossy Mountain area on Tuesday. And they proved very successful, and we’ve got those containment lines in at this point in time.”
The fire is now mapped at 30,000 hectares, and has forced 41 properties near Tunkwa Lake to evacuate.
Logan Lake is on evacuation alert, but Robinson says the fire is 15 kilometres away. He says it’s about 20 km away from other areas of Highway 97C between Logan Lake and Ashcroft.
