Kamloops RCMP say they arrested a man with an imitation gun in downtown Kamloops, a few blocks away from where Hot Nite in the City was taking place this past Saturday.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says around 3:10 p.m. on Aug. 7, officers who were patrolling the area near Battle Street and 10th Avenue came across a man, who is well known to police, who appeared to be carrying a firearm in his waistband.
“When police tried to arrest the man, a struggle occurred, and what appeared to be a gun fell to the ground,” Evelyn said, in a statement.
On further inspection, Evelyn says, the man had a BB gun, though she notes a subsequent search led to the discovery and seizure of suspected illegal drugs, as well as packaging and paraphernalia commonly associated to drug trafficking.
“The items were seized and the man was released, pending the investigation’s completion and subsequent charge recommendation and assessment process,” Evelyn added.
