Kamloops RCMP say they recovered two high-end mountain bikes that were stolen last week
Last Thursday morning, on August 5, spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says RCMP saw a man with one of the bikes, with a cut lock still attached to the wheel, on the 600-block of Seymour Street.
“The man denied ownership of the bike and it was seized by police for investigation,” she said.
A couple hours later, Evelyn notes Kamloops RCMP were told about two bikes with a combined value of approximately $18,000 that were stolen from a vehicle parked on the 100-block of Lorne Street.
She says one of the bikes was returned to its owner after the serial number matched.
Two days later, on Saturday afternoon, police say the second bike was found in the area of Victoria Street West when they saw a man riding it. That bike was seized after the serial number confirmed it to be one of the stolen bikes, though the man was released, pending further investigation.
“The rider on the second bike claimed to have purchased it for $2,000 a couple of days earlier and admitted to police that the deal seemed too good to be true,” Evelyn said. “Luckily, thanks to the proactive patrols and the information provided to police, the bikes were returned to their rightful owner.”
“Unfortunately for the person who bought the second bike, they’re out of pocket for the stolen goods. If your gut is telling you it’s too good to be true, listen.”
