As the various parties put themselves on a war-footing ahead of an anticipated federal election call, it appears the Liberal candidate in Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo has decided to drop out.
George Petel was acclaimed as the Liberal candidate just last weekend – but a post on his Facebook page today says upon reflection, he has decided to focus on work and his family.
“Well, it has been an exciting couple of weeks,” he wrote, in the post, a screenshot of which was sent to NL News.
“It has been a lifelong dream to bring a strong voice to Parliament for us Kamloopsians and Secwepemc and knowing that I’m going to outlive my Great Grandfather and namesake who make 98 years, I have another 50 years to accomplish this goal.”
Petel provided no other details but he thanked people for their support.
So far, there hasn’t been any word from the party’s riding association about a potential replacement. NL News has reached out to riding association president, Lorraine Mallon, and is awaiting a response.
A federal election call is expected later this month.
