A heartbreaking theft affecting a Kamloops family.
Kamloops RCMP say someone stole a poem from the family’s late son, silver bracelets and a medal of honour from a truck in the city’s west end, late last month.
Const. Crystal Evelyn says the items were in a bin in the truck as part of the family’s evacuation kit, as items they would keep in an emergency. She says that factor makes the situation “even more heartbreaking.”
Police say the theft happened between July 27-29, in front of the home on the 700-block of Arbutus Street.
“Whoever stole the items needs to realize their monetary worth is nothing in comparison to the their sentimental value,” Evelyn says. “Please look deep into yourself and return them.”
There were also other sentimental items stolen from the evacuation bin which Evelyn says have now been returned to the Kamloops RCMP detachment. Those include a shiny wooden box with the letter “J” on the front, and a blue box with other items connected to the family’s late son.
Evelyn sys the silver medal of honour came from Thompson Rivers University and has the name of the woman who received it. The poem from their late son was on an 8-by-11 piece of paper, and the four silver bracelets stolen were supposed to eventually be given to four granddaughters in the family during a reunion.
Anyone who comes across any of the missing items or knows where they may be is asked to call Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000, and reference file number 2021-800361.
