
B.C. is reporting 867 new COVID-19 cases today, including 350 in Interior Health.
There are now 5,657 active cases of the virus in the province, an increase of 17 cases from yesterday. In Interior Health, there was an increase in 176 active cases, now at 2,190 as of Friday’s update.
Elsewhere, there were 228 new cases in Fraser Health (1,377 active), 165 in Vancouver Coastal Health (1,132 active), 63 in Island Health (555 active), and 61 in Northern Health (393 active). There were no new cases in people who live outside of Canada, with 10 such cases active.
There are now 159 people now in hospital with COVID-19, 84 in intensive care. Hospitalizations are up by 10, while the number of people in ICU is up by one from Thursday’s update.
There were also three more deaths reported in Interior Health taking the provincial COVID-19 death toll to 1,807 people.
Between August 12 and 25, health officials say people who are not fully vaccinated accounted for 82 per cent of all COVID cases in B.C. and 85.9 per cent of hospitalizations.
They say from August 19 to 25 there were 4,368 COVID cases reported with 71.3 per cent (3,116) in unvaccinated people. Another 10.7 per cent (467) were in partially vaccinated people, and 18 per cent (785) in fully vaccinated people.
In that same time frame, there have been 199 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 unvaccinated people. That drops to 105.7 cases per 100,000 people who are partially vaccinated and just 24.9 cases per 100,000 people who are fully vaccinated.
When it comes to hospitalizations between August 12 and 25, 79.3 per cent of the 213 people hospitalized (169) were unvaccinated, while 6.6 per cent (14) were partially vaccinated people, and the remaining 14.1 per cent (30) were fully vaccinated people.
On the vaccine front, there are now 83.9 per cent of eligible people over the age of 12 (3,886,952) who have gotten one dose of a COVID vaccine, while 75.8 per cent of people (3,514,485) who are fully vaccinated. That is an increase of 8,529 first doses and 10,083 people who are fully vaccinated compared to yesterday’s update.
Since December 2020, the Province has administered 7,408,715 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
