After months of being closed for construction, Tranquille Road has reopened through part of Brocklehurst as of today.
The City of Kamloops says the road is back open to regular traffic between 12th Street and Singh Street, including to vehicles transporting dangerous goods. That is despite some above-ground work like landscaping still taking place.
It is why the City says the area will remain a construction zone with a 30-kilometre-per-hour speed limit for the time being.
There have also been several traffic changes through that stretch, with new traffic signs at Valhalla Drive and Cambridge Crescent and an upgraded pedestrian crossing at Popp Street.
With Tranquille reopening, the four-way stop sign at 12th Street and Lethbridge Avenue is also being taken down today as traffic is expected to be less significant.
This current phase of the project has been going on since March 1, with Tranquille Road, west of 12th Street, closed since then. It comes after Tranquille was closed from Singh Street to Southill Street for much of last year for phase one of the same project.
The multi-year project has seen underground sewage infrastructure replaced along that corridor, with a budget of $12 million.
