A second long-term care home in Kamloops is now reporting a COVID-19 outbreak.
Management at The Hamlets at Westsyde say three residents have tested positive for the virus, and they are all believed to be in the same long-term care unit.
No residents in assisted living are believed to have tested positive, though staff say they will be monitoring the situation to detect any other possible cases throughout the facility.
As a result of the outbreak, residents will not be able to have any social visits. Essential visitors will only be allowed in if they are fully vaccinated.
This is the second COVID-19 outbreak at the Hamlets at Westsyde. The other was reported in November 2020, when one staff member tested positive.
An outbreak of COVID-19 was also declared at Kamloops Seniors Village last month. As of Wednesday, Sept. 1, Interior Health says there have been five cases there, three residents and two staff, with one death connected.
However, in an update on Monday, August 30, operators of the care home said that four more asymptomatic residents tested positive for the virus, taking the total number of cases up to nine.
“Three were located on 1C Complex Care Neighbourhood and the fourth was located on 1B Complex Care Neighbourhood,” the update said. “We have temporarily moved the 1B resident to 1C until further notice.”
These are the first two COVID-19 outbreaks in healthcare facilities in Kamloops during the fourth wave of the virus that has hit the province.
