
B.C. health officials are reporting 2,425 new COVID-19 cases in the province over the Labour Day long weekend, with 838 of those cases in Interior Health.
There were 695 cases reported on Sept. 4, 634 on Sept. 5, 563 new cases on Labour Day Monday, Sept. 6, and another 553 new cases today, Sept. 7.
Active cases of COVID-19 in the province are now at 5,465 – a drop of 407 from Friday’s update. Of that, there are 1,714 active cases in Interior Health, a drop of 171 from Friday.
There however was an increase in the number of people in hospital to 255 (40 more than Friday) with 126 of those people in intensive care (an increase of eight).
Of the weekend total, 705 new cases were in Fraser Health (1,530 active), with 368 new cases in Vancouver Coastal Health (1,010 active), 312 new cases in Northern Health (703 active) and 202 new cases in Island Health (501 active).
In the past 96 hours, there were 15 new COVID-19 deaths reported – six in the Interior, four in Island Health, three in Fraser Health, and two in Vancouver Coastal Health. That takes the provincial COVID-19 death toll to 1,842 people.
An outbreak of COVID-19 at the Kamloops Seniors Village is up to 13 cases – nine residents and four staff – with one death connected. An outbreak at the Hamlets at Westsyde is also up to six cases – three residents and three staff.
Data from the B.C. Government shows there were 36,744 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine administered over the Labour Day Weekend, 14,640 of which were first doses. That means there are now 85.1 per cent (3,943,729) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. who have one dose of a COVID vaccine, while 77.6 per cent (3,594,929) are fully vaccinated.
Earlier today, the province released details on the its upcoming vaccine passport system, which will take effect next Monday, Sept. 13.
