One person was killed in a single vehicle rollover crash on Highway 97C between Ashcroft and Logan Lake this morning.
Ashcroft RCMP spokesperson Const. Richard Wright tells NL News emergency crews were called at around 9 am Wednesday after a vehicle rolled over in the ditch by the side of the highway.
“There was reportedly one male inside the vehicle and when police arrived, unfortunately the male was deceased at scene,” he said. “The road was temporarily closed so that the tow truck could removed the vehicle from the ditch, but it has since reopened.”
As of 12:30 p.m., Drive BC said the highway had reopened in both directions between Goldstream Creek Road and North Road. It was closed just after 9 a.m. this morning, when reports of the crash first came in.
Wright says police are not yet sure why the vehicle rolled into the ditch.
“In regards to weather, it was raining earlier this morning at the time of the reported collision. But in regards to anything else, it would be purely speculation,” he said. “We do have an ongoing investigation into this to discover exactly what caused the vehicle to end up in the ditch. Hopefully we will discover exactly what led to this incident.”
For now, police are not releasing the name of the victim as Wright says officers are still trying to contact his next of kin.
Earlier in the day, BC Highway Patrol spokesperson Cpl. Mike Halskov told NL News the crash was not believed to be criminal in nature.
