Kamloops RCMP say a woman is in custody after police stopped an impaired driver downtown early this morning.
Spokesperson Const. Crystal Evelyn says police found a passenger in the SUV with a loaded gun, drugs, and cash. The vehicle was pulled over around 2:54 a.m. at 8th and Seymour for a number of traffic violations, including speeding.
“The driver failed roadside breath tests and received a 90-day driving prohibition and a 30-day vehicle impound under the Motor Vehicle Act,” Evelyn said, in a statement.
She says the woman was arrested after she was getting ready to leave the vehicle as officers spotted a large amount of cash as well as weapons, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia inside.
“A loaded firearm and suspected drugs were also seized as part of the investigation,” Evelyn added. “At this time, the woman remains in custody as part of the ongoing investigation. Charges are pending its conclusion and any subsequent charge assessment.”
