
Another 525 new cases of COVID-19 are being reported in British Columbia, new data from the provincial government shows, with 147 new cases in Interior health.
Active cases in the province are at 5,282, down by 326 from Friday’s update. There are 1,167 active cases in Interior Health, down by 16 cases from Monday’s update.
The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 across B.C. was up by 25 to 332 as of Tuesday, with 155 of those people in intensive care, down one.
Fraser Health reported 187 new cases (1,711 active) with 79 new cases in Northern Health (921 active), 61 in Island Health (619 active), and 51 in Vancouver Coastal Health (822 active). There were no new cases in people who live outside of Canada with 42 such cases active, a steep increase from the seven reported Monday.
“The number of out of country cases has increased due to a data clean up and reassignment of cases previously reported as Vancouver Coastal Health residents being identified as normally residing outside of Canada,” a statement from the Ministry of Health said.
The COVID-19 death toll is at 1,900 people after one more death was reported in Vancouver Coastal Health.
An outbreak at Kamloops Seniors Village remains at 18 cases – eight among staff and ten among residents – with one death linked, while an outbreak at the Hamlets at Westsyde has six cases linked – three among residents and three among staff members.
The third outbreak at Overlander Residential Care, which was declared on Monday, is still at four cases – two staff members and two residents.
Data from the province shows there are now 87 per cent of people over the age of 12 (4,031,909) have gotten one dose of a COVID vaccine, while 79.5 per cent (3,685,799) are fully vaccinated. That is an increase of 7,607 first doses and 6,618 second doses when compared to Monday.
Between Sept. 13 and 19, the government says people not fully vaccinated accounted for 76.1 per cent of new COVID cases. Between Sept. 6 and Sept. 19, they accounted for 84.7 per cent of all hospitalizations.
