
B.C. is reporting another 2,239 cases of COVID-19 this past weekend, 525 of which were in Interior Health.
There were 876 reported Saturday, 657 on Sunday, and another 706 Monday – an average of 746 cases every day.
Active cases are are 6,098 across the province, an increase of 116 cases from Friday’s update. There are 303 people in hospital with an active case of COVID-19, down from 319 on Friday. There are 141 people in intensive care with the virus, down by eight.
Fraser Health led the way this weekend with 857 new cases (2,218 active) while Northern Health reported 358 new cases (1,165 active), Vancouver Coastal Health had 256 new cases (843 active) and 230 new cases in Island Health (657 active). There were also 13 new cases in people who live outside of Canada with 56 such cases now active.
Over the weekend, there were 18 new deaths reported – six in Vancouver Coastal Health, five in Interior Health, three each in Fraser Health and Island Health, and on in Norther Health – taking the provincial death toll to 1,940 people.
In a statement, Interior Health says an outbreak Overlander Residential Care in Kamloops is now at 14 cases – nine residents and five staff. That is up from five cases on Friday – three residents and two staff.
There were no changes reported at the Hamlets at Kamloops Seniors Village which remains at 19 cases – ten among residents and nine among staff – with one death linked, or at the Hamlets at Westsyde which remains at six cases – three among residents and three among staff members.
Data released Friday by the B.C. government shows there are now 87.7 per cent of people over the age of 12 (4,064,859) who have gotten at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 80.5 per cent (3,729,606) are fully vaccinated. That is an increase of 11,121 first doses and 20,052 second doses since Friday.
