Interior Health is now reporting COVID-19 exposures at multiple schools in the Kamloops-Thompson School District, after a sudden change in B.C. government policy that once again is making those exposures public.
An exposures has been reported at Juniper Ridge Elementary on Sept. 17, 20, 21, 22, and at Aberdeen Elementary on Sept. 16, 17, and Sept. 20 to 23.
It’s unclear how many cases are linked to each of the exposures.
As was the policy during the previous school year, families of any students at risk of exposure would’ve already been contacted before the exposure notices were made public.
IH has gradually been updating its potential school exposure website on Tuesday afternoon, which can be found here, after B.C. health officials reversed course in its policy to, once again, start reporting all school exposures publicly.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry had first announced last week B.C. would again be making all potential school exposures public, before the change came into effect today.
The change in policy came after backlash for the provincial government when it chose to not inform families of COVID-19 cases in schools, apart from declaring clusters or outbreaks.
Henry said the change was meant to create less anxiety for families, but feedback far and wide has been the opposite – with many saying the lack of information causes more anxiety.
