Logan Stankoven and Quinn Schmiemann have been named co-captains of the Kamloops Blazers for the 2021-22 WHL season.
Stankoven, a Kamloops native, will wear the ‘C’ for all home games at Sandman Centre while Schmiemann, a native of Wilcox, Sask., will do so for road games.
The 18-year-old Stankoven is into his third season with the Blazers. He currently leads the team in scoring with eight points (two goals and six assists) in four games, giving him 67 points in 77 career WHL games.
Stankoven was drafted by the Dallas Stars in the second round of the 2021 NHL Draft and signed an NHL entry level contract last month.
Schmiemann, 20, meanwhile is going into his fourth season with the Blazers. In 144 career WHL games, he has put up 82 points.
A sixth round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2019, Schmiemann was most recently a part of the Philadelphia Flyers training camp. He will be making his WHL season debut tonight against the Kelowna Rockets.
The Blazers also announced that four players will take turns as alternate captains this season.
Forwards Caedan Bankier, 18, and Josh Pillar, 19, will wear the ‘A’ at home games, while fellow forwards Matthew Seminoff, 18, and Daylan Kuefler, 19, will be alternate captains for all road games.
