The B.C. Coroners Service is investigating a workplace death at Rivercity Fibre on Mission Flats Road in Kamloops.
In an email, Ryan Panton, the Manager of Strategic Communications and Media Relations at the B.C. Coroners Service told NL News it happened last Friday morning, Oct. 15.
“I can confirm that we are investigating a death, but as our investigation is open I’m unable to provide any additional information at this time,” he said. “Per the Coroners Act and due to privacy considerations we do not release or confirm information related to the identity of decedents.”
WorkSafeBC spokesperson Samantha Pinto told NL News they were notified about a “serious workplace incident” at about 10 a.m. Friday morning.
“[Our] prevention and investigations teams responded to the incident, and an investigation has been launched,” she wrote, in an email.
“The purpose of WorkSafeBC’s investigation is to determine the cause of the incident, and any contributing factors, with the aim to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.”
