The victim in last Friday’s workplace death at Rivercity Fibre in Kamloops has been identified online as 34-year-old Wade Lieuwen, a father of two.
A GoFundMe fundraiser hoping to support his widow Megan, and their two children Sienna, 10, and Brylee, 8, has raised $37,255 as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20.
“If you’ve known Megan and Wade, you know that they are dreamers [and] because of the clear intention behind their every action, they’ve made these dreams come true,” family friend Caitlin Reed, who created the fundraiser said. “They had recently started their own industrial equipment and repair company after Wade’s extended and enjoyable career with Finning.”
“They faced challenges and hurdles along the way but they persevered. Every decision they’ve made has been for their family’s happiness, balance, and the betterment of those around them. They are authentic, talented, honest, hard-working people with envious small-town charm.”
Reed says Lieuwen’s two daughters are “full of life, love, kindness, spirit, vision, and creativity.” She says there’s been an outpouring of support from family, friends, the community, and industry since the Oct. 15 accident.
“Wade would have wanted nothing more than to see his daughters achieve their dreams. They are now faced with an enormous hurdle in their way, and it only seems fitting that we come together to support them just as Wade would have for anyone in a similar situation,” Reed said.
“There is no better way to honour an incredible, hands-on father and husband.”
It is not clear what caused the accident, but both the B.C. Coroners Service and WorkSafeBC are investigating.
