A driver was taken off the road in downtown Kamloops for going more than 100 kilometres per hour on Lansdowne Street on Saturday night.
That’s more than twice the posted speed limit, of 50 km/h.
Kamloops RCMP say the Jeep was seen excessively speeding on Lansdowne near 1st Avenue, while Mounties were doing patrols nearby. The driver was given a 24-hour driving ban and issued an excessive speeding ticket, which is a minimum of $368 and comes with points to the person’s driving record. Their Jeep was also towed and impounded for seven days.
Guns Seized During Mental Health Call
Kamloops RCMP were called to service more than 370 times altogether between Friday and Monday morning. One of the weekend calls led to two firearms being seized during a mental health call, early Friday morning.
Mounties received a report just after midnight on Oct. 22 about a man in distress with a handgun on 8th Street. Police say the man was arrested without incident under the Mental Health Act and taken to Royal Inland Hospital.
After the arrest, the man’s vehicle was searched and two guns were seized. Police are investigating issues with their storage and the man’s possession of those firearms.
Alleged Impaired Driver Arrested While Sleeping in Vehicle in Traffic
Also over the weekend, police in Kamloops arrested a man who was passed out in his vehicle while still in traffic on a North Shore street.
Mounties were called to 10th Street and Moncton Avenue on Sunday at about 2:30 p.m., where a man was sleeping in a van that was still running, and taking up one lane of the street.
Police say it was determined the driver was likely impaired by drugs and also had a driving prohibition.
The person involved was arrested and later released with a court date.
