A Kamloops security guard has been charged with assault, now eight months after being filmed in an altercation in the city’s downtown.
The incident happened on March 18th on Victoria Street West, outside of the homeless storage facility.
Kamloops RCMP Const. Crystal Evelyn says police started investigating shortly after the incident happened.
“As part of that investigation, police reviewed and collected surveillance footage as well as spoke with witnesses and other people who were involved with that. And after the conclusion of that investigation, ended up receiving charge approval. So police recommended charges to the BC Prosecution Service and one count of assault was approved.”
Fifty-five-year-old Richard Eldridge has been charged and will appear in Kamloops court next month.
Eldridge was working with Lapper Security at the time. Owner Ed Lapierre said in the days after the assault happened that the guard had asked a person to leave, after the storage facility had closed, and was then spat on. He said that was when the guard knocked him down and started kicking him.
Evelyn couldn’t speak to a possible motive in the attack that police may have determined, saying those details of the investigation will come out in court.
